PEORIA – Pope Francis has accepted the retirement of Bishop Daniel Jenky and Bishop Louis Tylka has been named the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Peoria.
Jenky is retiring after 20 years and turned 75 Thursday – that’s the age when a bishop must submit a letter offering their retirement and the pope either accepts or rejects it.
“Bishop Tylka has selflessly given himself in service to the people of the Diocese of Peoria since his ordination,” said Jenky in a statement. “I am confident that the faithful will find him to be a loving and dedicated shepherd.”
Bishop Tylka was appointed co-bishop for the Diocese of Peoria about 18-months ago to work along side Jenky until his retirement.
A native of Harvey, Illinois, Tylka was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1996.
