BLOOMINGTON – According to a central Illinois laboratory, the Omicron variant is now the predominant COVID-19 variant.
During their latest sequencing data, Pekin-based Reditus Laboratories say in specimens collected on January 11 and 12, 88 out of 90 test samples identified as the Omicron variant, and two were identified as the delta variant.
“The interesting story here is, rapidly, Omicron became almost 100% of all positive cases so quickly. The data does show that also is the case in our testing area, Dr. Rossi, at Reditus Laboratories said.
According to a news release, Dr. Rossi said the laboratory has processed more than 500,000 tests in the last forty days.
The laboratory runs the COVID-19 testing site at the Interstate Center.
