CHICAGO – The omicron variant hasn’t been detected yet in Illinois, but Gov. JB Pritzker says its only a matter of time before it’s here – if it isn’t already.

He says mitigations like indoor mask mandates aren’t going away anytime soon.

“We are not lifting that, especially not now,” said Pritzker during an unrelated news conference this week. “I’ve said all along that I want to lift it when we start to see hospitalizations really plunge. We’ve not seen that, hospitalizations are going up every day.”

Hospitalizations have increased by more than a thousand statewide since November 4.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
