SPRINGFIELD – Life is not easy for older Illinoisans who are in the LGBTQ community.
AARP Illinois advocacy and outreach manager Mary Anderson says a study her organization conducted along with SAGE – an advocacy group for older LGBTQ adults – is unique.
“And the findings are staggering,” Anderson told an online news conference Tuesday. “We found pervasive discrimination keeps LGBTQ individuals from securing good jobs with family-sustaining wages and benefits, which ultimately hurts their retirement security and ability to age with dignity.”
AARP conducted the study in conjunction with SAGE, an organization which advocates for LGBTQ seniors.
