BLOOMINGTON – The search for missing Illinois State University graduate student Jelani Day is ongoing, according to Bloomington Police.

BPD public information officer John Fermon says detectives are still sorting through tips and are still actively investigating the case.

A body that was found earlier this month in the Illinois River has still not been identified. The LaSalle County Coroner’s Office has already done the autopsy and is waiting for the DNA identification, according to Fermon.

Fermon says they are asking that people refrain from speculation as the investigation continues.

“We haven’t stopped investigating the case just because a body was located up there,” said Fermon. “A lot of the the digital evidence has been combed through and a lot of the physical evidence has been processed. Right now, it’s really organizing a lot of things like the leads and tips and sorting through that. Our detectives are actively working on the case.”

“We are kind of at the same point as everyone else and waiting for that body to be identified. We have to be patient and try to support the family,” said Fermon.

Day was reported missing almost a month ago. His car was located in a wooded area in Peru on Aug. 26. More information can be found here.
