NORMAL – Pet adoption is on the rise across Central Illinois, as one animal shelter recorded significant amounts of pet adoptions last month.
Jane Kahman with the Central Illinois Humane Society said August was a good month for the shelter; however, there are still over 100 pets left to be adopted.
“August was a great month for adoption; we adopted out 99 animals in the month of August. There’s always more that come in. It’s kind of like spitting in the ocean; it keeps filling up.”
Kahman told WJBC’s Marc Strauss the shelter would be holding pet adoption events throughout September.
For those interested in adopting a dog, cat, or another animal, Kahman said the shelter allows the public to visit, but masks are required.
“You can just walk in as long as you are wearing your mask. And you can view the animals. If you are seriously considering adoption, I still will go online to the website to submit the application; that way, you are preapproved when you come in. It makes it a lot easier.”
