SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker has three simple words for people who may be tempted to click on links they see in unfamiliar emails:
“Don’t do it,” Pritzker said of “phishing emails purporting to come from state government – in these cases, the secretary of state and the Illinois Department of Transportation. “If you don’t recognize who is sending you that, and you can actually look at the email address where it is being sent from, and get some confidence about where it’s coming from, either the secretary of state’s office or IDOT – but lately they are not sending (unsolicited) emails out – you should look at it, does it say ‘secretary of state’s office’ or ‘IDOT’? Probably not.”
Whoever is doing this just wants to con you into sharing your personal information – or even access to your computer.
