SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is in on the talks toward a new infrastructure bill. And he says people asking, how do you pay for it, are asking the same question he is.
“The President has said, we don’t want to increase the tax burden on anyone making less than $400,000. And the Republicans said, we will never raise taxes,” Durbin said at a local event in Springfield Monday. “So you are saying to yourself, how are you going to come up with money to pay for $1 trillion of infrastructure with those two political standards that you have to live by?
“That’s what they are in the process of negotiating.”
At least they talked the President down from two to one trillion.
Durbin says he expects the bill to be bipartisan but not the reconciliation version of it.
