Auburn man charged with federal offenses for participating in Capitol Insurrection

AUBURN – An Auburn, Illinois, was arrested on Thursday for crimes related to the U.S. Capitol Insurrection.

Shane Jason Woods, 43, of Auburn, is charged with federal offenses that include assault on a law enforcement officer; assault in special maritime and territorial jurisdiction. Woods is also charged with engaging in physical violence in a restricted building on grounds, among other charges.

According to court documents, Woods can be seen publicly available in a video running towards a U.S. Capitol Police officer. He then tripped the officer and pushed her to the ground around 2:10 p.m. on January 6th.

Additionally, documents show around 5:00 p.m., Woods gathered in the vicinity of the media staging area, where several protesters were yelling and spitting at news media members.

Woods then allegedly climbed over a fence and participated in the assault on the media equipment.

Court documents show Woods was seen walking around the piled media equipment and picking up and tossing some of it.

As depicted in a publicly available video, Woods is seen running into a cameraman, causing him to fall and drop his camera.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office, U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI’s Springfield Office.
