Normal announces updated public pool guidelines with state loosening COVID-19 mitigations

NORMAL – With the state potentially moving into the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois plan by the end of the week, public pools in Normal will be adjusting their guidelines.

“We are pleased the state has made changes allowing us to follow these more flexible guidelines,” says Hanna Razo, aquatics supervisor of Normal Parks and Recreation. “We will continue to be adaptable and accommodate all patrons and program participants as IDPH guidelines allow.”

During the Bridge Phase, no group visits, field trips or birthday party reservations will be accepted. Fairview Family Aquatic Center will close at 5:40 p.m. on some nights to allow for swim lessons. Anderson pools will close at 4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday for swim team practice.

Here’s a full breakdown of the updated guidelines:

Fairview Family Aquatic Center and Anderson Aquatic Center Updated Guidelines

  • Facilities will operate at a reduced capacity to allow for proper social distancing.
    • Fairview Family Aquatic Center will operate at a maximum patron capacity of 500 (33%).
    • Anderson Aquatic Center will operate at a maximum patron capacity of 250 (26%).
      • Toddler Time max capacity will be 75 patrons.
  • Patrons must self-screen before entering the facilities and not enter if they have any of the following:
    • Any COVID-19 symptoms
    • Fever of 100.4 or higher
    • Under evaluation for COVID-19 (ex. Waiting for COVID test results)
    • Diagnosed with COVID-19 and not cleared to discontinue isolation
  • Deck/Lounge chairs will be limited. Patrons are encouraged to bring towels to sit in our grassy areas.
  • Face coverings required when entering/exiting facility, using locker rooms and bathrooms, in concession area and anytime on deck that social distancing cannot be maintained.
