Police: Twin-Cities man arrested after young abuse victim suffers head injury

NORMAL – Normal Police confirmed Wednesday night they’ve arrested a local man accused of physically abusing a child last month.

The child is younger than 12 and was treated for head trauma at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Police Chief Rick Bleichner told our news partner Heart of Illinois-ABC.

Prosecutors this week charged Gaje Roake, 20, of Normal with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery.

The alleged abuse happened September 30 in Normal, and the chief said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services called in police to investigate in mid-October.

Roake has to post a $27,500 cash bond to be released from the McLean County Jail.
