NORMAL – The Town of Normal is seeking public input before elected leaders vote next month on a proposed update to the community’s bicycle and pedestrian master plan.

Town staffers said the updated proposal includes extending the Constitution Trail, installing of bike lanes, building new sidewalks, and coordinating walk- and bike-to-school events.

“The new bike and pedestrian master plan will make our community more welcoming and accessible for residents and visitors alike, said Timothy McCue, a wheelchair athlete and area coordinator for Illinois State University.

“The plan was created to be intentionally inclusive of as many ways of navigating the area as possible,” said McCue in a news release.

The public comment period starts Friday and runs through September 18. People can submit comments on the website or contact Town Planner Mercy Davison at 309-454-9590, and at [email protected]

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
