BLOOMINGTON – A 16-year-old boy from Bloomington was arrested Tuesday night for having a gun in his waistband.

Bloomington Police made a traffic stop around 10:20 p.m. near Roosevelt Avenue and Market Street for an equipment violation. BPD said during the traffic stop, one of the passengers attempted to run away shortly after handing over a small amount of cannabis (6 grams and a scale).

When the passenger attempted to flee, officers arrested the passenger and placed him into handcuffs after a short struggle. Officers located a loaded 9 mm handgun with an extended magazine in the 16 year old’s waistband. One officer sustained a minor injury from the arrest. The suspect was not injured.

The boy was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, probation violation, and illegal transportation of cannabis.

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
