Victim in fatal I-74 fatal crash on Tuesday identified as 57-year-old Morton man

MCLEAN COUNTY – The Illinois State Police say the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 74 on Tuesday has been cited.

The crash happened at about 3:18 p.m. Tuesday near the Rivian Motorway exit on I-74 in McLean County.

The victim in the fatal crash was not identified by police, but a release stated he was a 57-year-old Morton man.

The man was securing a load on the right shoulder of the road when the driver of a 1946 Chevrolet traveling eastbound on I-74 left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck the vehicle and pedestrian, according to the ISP.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County coroner.

Edwin G. Sumner, 59, of Bement, was cited for failure to reduce speed when approaching a disabled vehicle, failure to change lanes when approaching a disabled vehicle and no valid insurance.
