BLOOMINGTON – From home showings to closings, the real estate marking is another industry affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Like every other industry, we’ve certainly seen some impact within the real estate world,” Jilyan Landon President and Managing Broker at Ryan Dallas Real Estate said. “A lot of home buyers and sellers still do have housing needs, and real estate needs so we are working proactively to take all the extra precautions that we can to keep them safe during this time; taking a safety-first mentality with our showings all the way through to closing keeping contacts at minimal as possible to keep everyone safe.”

Landon says one silver lining is virtual showings, which allow more people to see a variety of houses that they might have missed.

“We’ve certainly made a lot of enhancements to our marketing, knowing that buyers want to engage in property in a different way and more virtual experience. That being said, we still have families that want to get out and look at homes, simply because they have a housing need.”

However, Landon said Ryan Dallas Real Estate sees some hesitation in the housing market.

“There are a lot of things that we are watching as a company right now in terms as some of the metrics of the impact of COVID-19 on real estate. Some of the emerging trends so far is that there is a little bit of hesitation in terms of new homes to hit the market, but we are still seeing a lot of buyers searching for properties online.”

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
