BLOOMINGTON – Just a day after a historic summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin and questions surrounding election meddling, a former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party is calling out President Trump for taking Putin’s side on election meddling.

During a summit between the two presidents held in Finland, President Trump announced that the Russians had ‘zero collusion’ with the 2016 election.

“[For President Trump] to get up there and take his [President Putin’s] side, if you are a conservative Republican your head should be exploding today,” added Pat Brady, former chairman for the Illinois Republican Party and former federal and state prosecutor. “This is what we have been fighting for forever and [President Trump] just undid a whole bunch of it. If you are in Europe, he just made a new world order, too. We are the number one superpower and he [changed] that in the last 24 hours.”

President Trump added that the probe into the 2016 election meddling has had a negative impact on the relationships between the United States and Russia, but Brady added that is not the case.

“The thing here is that people get killed, countries get run over and the United States gets damaged and there is so much more damage he does by having these idiotic press conferences and making these statements [refering to the 2016 election],” added Brady. “He put himself over America and that is disturbing.”

Brady added that the goal for President Putin is to bring back the Soviet Union that ended in 1991.

“Putin is a murderer and he is a bad bad man. He is the former head of the KGB. Read the story about how they [KGB] killed a guy with a tip of an umbrella one day,” added Brady. “He kills people. His goal in life is to restore the Soviet Union. That was the biggest crime in history to him is that there is no more Soviet Union. That’s the cold war that we won and maintained for years.”

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
