Illinois House expands 3-day wait for any gun purchases

SPRINGFIELD – Gun control measures are heading out of the Illinois House and to the Senate in the final days of the spring session.

Lawmakers approved holding consumers to a 72-hour waiting period to buy a gun in Illinois. The legislation expands the three-day wait from handguns to any gun. Republican State Rep. Allen Skillicorn of Crystal Lake said the new measure will only act to irritate legal gun buyers.

“This is just a repeated irritation and aggravation of legal gun owners,” Skillicorn said.

The Senate and Gov. Bruce Rauner both need to approve the new restriction.
