STANFORD – A Stanford home was damaged by fire during a rain storm Friday evening, but the fire department is not revealing a cause.

“Flames coming out the front of the structure on the first floor, mainly in the utility room,” said Allin Township Assistant Fire Chief Blake Grieder when describing what firefighters encountered when arriving to the A-frame house at on Pleasant Street.

The owner was not home at the time. Grieder said the man’s dog escaped unharmed.

“All we had to do was open a door and he flew right out,” the assistant chief said.

Grieder said there was fire damage to one room and smoke and water damage to the rest of the house. He provided no dollar estimate of damage.

Allin Township firefighters were aided by Danvers, Minier, Dale and Bloomington Township Fire Departments.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
