SPRINGFIELD – Alan Beaman wants the Illinois Supreme Court to reinstate his lawsuit against Town of Normal Police officers who he claims conspired to wrongfully and maliciously prosecute him for a 1993 murder.
Beaman was freed from a life sentence in 2008 after the state’s high court tossed out the murder conviction against Beaman for the death of ISU student Jennifer Lockmiller. Beaman spent 13 years behind bars following his 1994 conviction.
After he was formally pardoned, Beaman later sued the town over his arrest. The 4th District Appeals Court in Springfield issued a ruling Friday upholding a lower court decision to throw out the case against police officers Tim Freesmeyer, Dave Warner and Frank Zayas.
