NORMAL – The company in line to buy the closed Mitsubishi Motors plant in Normal has yet to produce a car for the market, but Normal’s city manager confirmed they have a product in development and he’s seen it.
City Manager Mark Peterson told WJBC’s Dan Swaney the car being worked on by Rivian Automotive is real and it works.
“It’s awesome. It’s still a prototype. They’re not willing to share pictures at this point because of the competitive nature of the industry, but I did see it,” he said.
Peterson believe people will be impressed when Rivian can show what the car looks like.
“(It’s) a beautiful car, full of all kinds of screens and things like that,” said Peterson. “It’s a little different, but not goofy looking.”
Rivian was founded in 2009, but has yet to put a car on the market.
