BLOOMINGTON – The annual Radio Bloomington Red Cross Blood Drive at Avanti’s in Bloomington brought in a record number of donations this year.
Red Cross Director of Blood Services Steve Stoewer said 132 units of blood were collected during the two day blood drive, which concluded Monday. The previous record of 114 was set in 2014.
The first donation day on July 18 brought in 89 donations, which was a record for a single day of the blood drive. Stoewer said 26 of this year’s donors were first timers.
He added the donations are critical as the Red Cross is currently facing an emergency need for blood.
