Over the past few weeks, I lost my voice – between screaming at the Illinois legislature, screaming at the Chicago Cubs, and screaming like a little girl on the rides at Walt Disney World.
Unfortunately, the only screaming that isn’t part of having fun is the screaming at the crazy politics of the past couple of weeks.
Last week, Illinois passed what are commonly called “stop-gap” measures.
Some call it a stop-gap budget, but it’s not a budget at all. It’s an appropriation of funds, which usually happens along with a budget.
Lawmakers did this at the very last possible moment – and then told every news media that it was a “win” for Illinois and they patted themselves on their backs for working together and doing their job.
Now, don’t get me wrong – it’s great to have the funding we need to open our schools – but that shouldn’t even be a question in the first place.
Calling this a win is like mowing one strip of your yard, then claiming you are doing your job.
This was something that had to happen. It was held over to the last minute, then passed – all to get through the summer and the upcoming election on a positive note.
It’s called politics.
One unbelievable comment on that last day came from Illinois Senator Kimberly Lightford.
She is a democrat, and the Assistant Majority Leader in the Senate.
She said, on the floor of the Senate: “As legislators, we should get paid for the work that we do. And I think it’s wrong for our income to be held…”
She then said that that legislators are not vendors, and legislators “deserve to be paid.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. She just said that she is much more important than any vendors who provide services for the state.
Sometimes, I just can’t believe the arrogance and stupidity that comes out of Springfield.
Oh, then there is Hillary Clinton and her e-mail server scandal…
FBI Director James Comey said that after their investigation, they don’t have any recommendations for criminal charges against Hillary.
While many see this has a fix – I see the FBI’s findings to be a very good thing.
The FBI found that Clinton did a lot wrong. She even endangered our national security and lied to the public.
But, if the FBI recommended that criminal charges be files against Hillary, then all information would stop.
Clinton, the FBI, and the Attorney General would all hide behind the typical statement that they don’t comment on pending legal matters.
However, if there are no legal matters pending – then let’s see the details!
Proving she is lying to us would be devastating for her.
