CLINTON – With profits falling, there is new hope in a bill in front of the Illinois legislature.
This time Exelon is teaming up with Com Ed electricity on a bill that would essentially keep the Clinton nuclear power plant open.
Brett Nauman is the spokesperson for the Clinton Plant. He said this year’s bill is more focused only providing help to plants that are hurting financially like Clinton and the Quad-Cities.
“This new legislation has created a zero emission standard and it would seek to help those power plants that are losing money in this market right now and allow them to continue operating in the future,” said Nauman.
This bill also encourages solar power projects in the state.
In a statement issued Friday, Exelon said if adequate legislation to help the plants is not passed, the company would close the Clinton plant on June 1, 2017 and the Quad Cities station one year later.
