SPRINGFIELD – The lives of heroin addicts may be saved thanks to a new training program in Illinois.
Naloxone can counter the effects of an overdose from drugs like heroin and morphine.
Terry Horstman with the state department of financial and professional regulation says pharmacists can take the online training course and help save lives.
“The pharmacists will be able to dispense the drug to anyone experiencing an overdose,” said Horstman. “Family members, friends, person in a position to assist a person at risk.”
That includes first responders and trained school nurses. Pharmacists can sign up for the program on the website IPHA.org.
