BLOOMINGTON – Green Top Grocery is moving forward with plans to build a co-op grocery store in Bloomington, despite falling short of their owner loan campaign goal.
The group brought in $1.26 million of its $1.5 million goal. Outreach Manager Katie Novak explained the Green Top Board of Directors saw enough momentum to push forward.
“We’ve broken national records, so they’re very excited about it. We’re very confident in the project,” said Novak. “The board decided to continue to take loans over the next couple weeks as we wrap up the campaign paperwork.
“If there are folks who are recent owners, who want to make a loan, we certainly welcome those over the next couple weeks.”
Novak said the plan is still to being construction at 921 E. Washington St. this spring or early summer. If funds are still a little short, the Green Top would look to take out a bank loan.
“Banks have expressed interest in our project and we actually have a loan in underwriting right now,” said Novak. “We’re confident that we’ll be able to secure that funding.”
