BLOOMINGTON – A pair of Bloomington Engineers recently received high honors from the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers.
City Engineer Kevin Kothe was named Illinois Government Engineer of the Year. Assistant City Engineer Robert Yehl was recognized as Outstanding Chapter Member.
Public Works Director Jim Karch said he’s “extremely proud” of the accomplishments of both men.
“Both these engineers are just superb in the approach that they take and the technical ability that they have,” he said.
Kothe has served as city engineer for 24 years. Yehl has been assistant city engineer since 2013.
Karch added working for a city is much different than working as a consulting engineer.
“Whenever you have a municipality you need that high level type engineering that can think about, ‘what is going to be in 10 year, 20 years,’” said Karch. “We don’t just look at this as a one year project, one and done. We have to think longer term.”
The two will be recognized during Monday’s City Council meeting.
