PONTIAC – Bungee Road north of Pontiac is closed at Route 66 as crews clean up following a train derailment. Union Pacific Spokesman Mark Davis tells WJBC news the railroad and street should reopen by 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
Davis said about 280 feet of track had to be replaced as a result of the derailment.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reported police responded to the derailment just before midnight on Monday. The 105 car train had been filling with corn at a grain elevator and was traveling at 5 miles per hour when a mechanical error caused nine cars to slip the track.
Police said two rail workers received minor injuries in the wreck. They were taken to St. James Hospital in Pontiac for treatment.
