BLOOMINGTON – With the United States Hockey League trade deadline coming up on Friday February 6th, the Bloomington Thunder have completed a trade with the Tri-City Storm of the Western Conference. The Thunder have traded defenseman Vince Pedrie (Penn State University) to the Storm for defenseman Cameron Spicer (University of Maine), 2015 USHL Phase I and Phase II second round draft picks, and ’98 affiliate player Joe Abate (University of Wisconsin).
The Thunder welcome the 6-foot-1 d-man after grabbing points in six straight games, including three this past weekend against the Fargo Force. The Erie, CO native has played in 29 games this season for the Storm scoring 4 points (1g, 3a) and a +7 rating. The 18-year old is in his first USHL season and committed to the University of Maine. Forward Abate will join the Thunder’s affiliate list. He currently plays with the Chicago Mission of the High Performance Hockey League and committed to the University of Wisconsin earlier this season. In 24 games with the Mission, the Bloomingdale, IL native has 14 points (8g, 6a).
With the trade, Pedrie joins the second place Tri-City Storm. The Apple Valley, MN native served as one of the Thunder’s assistant captains and was ranked third on the team in points with 23 (9g, 13a). Pedrie recently changed commitment and announced his plan to join the Penn State Nittany Lions after the 2014-15 season. The 21-year old vet has played in 171 USHL games and totaled 59 points (17g, 42a) while tallying many career highs with Bloomington.
Bloomington hits the road Friday to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers in their first meeting of the season. This will be game five of a six-game road trip in which the Thunder are 3-0-1.
