Lewis Estes
Lewis Raymond Estes, 87, alifetime resident of Chenoa passed away at 11:15 p.m., Jan. 31 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa with Pastor Charles France officiating. Burial will be in Chenoa Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday also at the funeral home in Chenoa. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be directed to Chenoa Presbyterian Church.
Lewis was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Chenoa the son of Fred and Rose (Wilder) Estes. He was married to Esther Marie Huff for 64 wonderful years. They were married on Aug. 13, 1949 in Chicago. She passed away on March 7, 2014.
Survivors includeone daughter, Melissa (Michael) Hollinshead of Springfield; one son, Dennis (Sue) Estes of Danvers; grandchildren, Jocelyn (Mitchell) Motley of Seattle, Wash., Bailey, Dugan, and Chelsea Hollinshead all of Springfield, Kelli Estes of Fla.; Tamira (Larry) Masching of Pontiac; and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Alexis and Raeanne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one son, Michael Estes.
Mr. Estes was a veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Chenoa Presbyterian Church.Lewis and Esther enjoyed dancing and camping for 17 years after their retirement and visited 38 states in their travels.

Gene Peterson
Gene Petersen, 89, of Bloomington, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Jan. 31 at his home surrounded by his family.
His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Jeffrey Windy and Monsignor Gregory Ketcham concelebrating. Military rites will be accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Central Catholic High School.

Gene was born March 8, 1925 in Chicago, the son of Harry and Eugenia Fagan Petersen.He married CathrynHemmele on May 1, 1945 in Bloomington. She survives.
He is also survived by seven children, Eugene (Karen) Petersen of Bloomington, Jim (Helen) Petersen of Indianapolis, Steve (Anne) Petersen of Bloomington, Cathy Hundman of Bloomington, John (Toni) Petersen of El Paso, Mike (Joan) Petersen of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Margie (Brian) Knutson of Bloomington; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Conroy of Moline and a brotherTom (Margaret) Petersen of South Bend, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Petersen and his son-in-law, William Hundman.
Gene was a graduate of Trinity High School (now Central Catholic.) During World War II, he was a pilot of a B-17, Flying Fortress, flew 35 combat missions over Europe, and was five times a recipient of the Air Medal. He retired from General Electric in 1988.
Gene was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and had been active in many parish organizations including St. Raphael Society, Christian Family Movement, Pre-Cana and Boy Scouts. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Gene’s life was dedicated to the mentoring and care of his family.
