SPRINGFIELD – Quite a few new laws are going into effect come Jan. 1.
Drivers who get pulled over for a traffic violation won't have to turn their driver's license over for bail anymore. Another law will ensure that kids under 18 who are forced into sex trafficking aren't charged with prostitution if they're caught.
Pregnant women are getting more protections on the job. Employers will need to provide reasonable accommodations for the expectant moms, like letting them have more bathroom breaks or letting them sit down, so long as it doesn't put a burden on the business. Also, people who have served time in prison will no longer be required to let employers know about their criminal past when they fill out an application.
