Grundy County Corner identifies man who died in van fire

DWIGHT – Authorities in Dwight identified a man who died in a vehicle fire early Thursday morning.

Dwight Police and Fire responded to the Love’s Travel Center at 12 West Northbrook Drive around 3 a.m. for a vehicle on fire.

Once on the scene, authorities found a fully engulfed cargo van.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the remains of the unidentified man.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan reports Percy Eichelberger, 71, of Starkville, MS., died from injuries sustained in the fire.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office are investigating the fire.
