Blumenshine tries to unseat Rep. Brady in Republican Primary

BLOOMINGTON – A mainstay in the Illinois legislature, Republican State Representative Dan Brady of Bloomington, is facing a primary challenge.

Local real estate broker David Paul Blumenshine announced Wednesday he’s running for the GOP nomination in the 105th District, which includes McLean County, large portions of Bloomington-Normal, and parts of Livingston County.

Brady has served in the Illinois House for 16 years, and was recently named Deputy House Minority Leader.

In a news release, Blumenshine does not mention Brady by name, but Blumenshine said he supports term limits and pledges to serve a maximum eight years as state representative. Blumenshine also said he will decline legislator pension and health benefits.

Blumenshine is calling for balanced budgets, creating what he described as “plausible” pension reform, and paying the state’s bills before paying politicians.

On his Facebook page, Blumenshine said he worked on Brady’s first run for the legislature, he was campaign manager for McLean County State’s Attorney Jason Chambers, and helped Marc Tiritilli, who came within about a dozen votes of becoming Normal’s mayor.

The primary election is March 20, 2018.
