NORMAL – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, said President-elect Trump’s call for rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges is something he’s been advocating for years.

Trump has called for a $1 trillion infrastructure plan.

Davis said it will take re-prioritizing spending to make it happen.

“We have to address reforming the way Washington spends money… to pay for things the American people want,” Davis said.

Davis said he’s not concerned about Trump’s lack of experience in government.

“I think it is actually more advantageous to work with somebody who has never been involved in the governing process like President Trump,” Davis said.

Davis declared Trump has been ‘statesman-like’ in several of his staff and cabinet nominations, not simply following political lines.

In particular, Davis sites Trump’s selection of Republican congressman Mike Pompeo of Kansas to head the Central Intelligence Agency. The two worked together on a the GMO labeling bill which Congress passed last summer. Davis says former Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus will make a great Chief of Staff.

Davis serves on the House Transportation and Agriculture committees and said he hopes to continue work in those committees during the 115th Congress which will convene in January.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
