NORMAL – Tough times are ahead at Heartland Community College.
College leadership will propose to the Board of Trustees the elimination of 23 positions within the next three years. The college is trying to reduce the operating budget by one-point-five million dollars. Tuition has already been increased by two dollars per credit hour and School President Rob Widmer said future increases are likely.
“Part of the proposal would be to look at a potential increase in one or two subsequent years of a similar nature assuming other variables don’t change dramatically and that’s all part of the long term projections,” said Widmer.
One of the positions being eliminated is the Athletic Director. That recommended cut led to successful protests two years ago. Widmer says the duties will be absorbed by current staff.
