BLOOMINGTON – This year’s United Way of McLean County campaign fell short of its goal to raise 8 percent more compared to a year ago.
The annual campaign brought in about $3.5 million versus $4.2 million last time around.
Co-chair Scott Preston still called the effort a success, however.
“It’s always great to see that once again, McLean County comes together, supports the causes and initiatives that our important to our community here right at home,” said Preston. “Though that number is not as large as we had hoped, there’s a lot of ways that we can have impact collectively in our community.”
Preston said more than 4,000 volunteer hours were logged during the campaign.
“We had 83 different companies who have increased their employee campaign contributions this year over last,” said Preston. “We had 14 companies that have never had United Way campaigns before that have ran one with their employees this year.”
Last year, 63 programs managed by 31 local non-profits benefited from funding through the United Way.
Preston said the organization is thankful to everyone who participated in this year’s effort.
