BLOOMINGTON – Tuesday is officially the last day to register for vote for the March primary in Illinois.
Until now, residents have been able to go to local election authorities, mail in, or go online to register to vote. McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael said if you haven’t registered yet, and can’t do so Tuesday, there is still a chance for you to vote through grace period registration.
“You can come to our office, and you do have to have two forms of I.D. with you, and you can register to vote,” said Michael. “And you have to vote at that time; right in our office, we’re all set up for you to vote.
“So, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) and that goes through the day before the election.”
Michael added residents can also do same day registration on Election Day, but she’s discouraging that option.
“I’m really concerned about the long lines. So we’re really encouraging people to early vote, vote by mail, but for darn sure please get registered to vote before Election Day,” Michael said.
Considering the amount of traffic her office has seen and the fact it’s a presidential election year, Michael said she wouldn’t be surprised to see voter turnout hit over 40 percent on Election Day.
