BLOOMINGTON – McLean County has seen a 48 percent increase in DUI arrests so far this year.
County Sheriff Jon Sandage told WJBC’s Terry James that’s a good thing. He said it means police across the county are getting drunk drivers off the road.
“On our side, at the sheriff’s office, I know we’ve got a lot of deputies who have really doubled down and they’re refocusing they’re efforts,” said Sandage. “They’re doing a great job of getting intoxicated motorists off the road.”
Sandage added he doesn’t think this means there are more drunk drivers out there.
“I just know that our guys are more cognizant of getting drunk drivers off the road,” he said.
Sandage said DUIs are “no joke anymore.” He explained part of the process for getting your license back if convicted for DUI is putting a breath monitoring device in your car.
