BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A Bloomington teen was arrested in connection with a shooting that left someone in critical condition.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on charges including attempted murder and aggravated battery, according to McLean County court records.
At 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, Bloomington police officers went to the Lincoln Lofts at 1017 Four Seasons Road for the reported shooting.
Arriving officers found the victim lying on the floor outside an apartment. Records say the victim has been shot in his chest.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but records say he survived the gunshot wound.
Officers spoke with multiple people who were in the hallway when they arrived. None saw what happened but reported hearing a single gunshot. A spent shell casing was found near several food items on the floor.
Records say police had later obtained surveillance video that showed the teen in and around the building before and after the shooting. He was identified by multiple people, including himself.
The footage allegedly showed him entering the building carrying the same food items found near the fired shell casing. About 10 minutes later, the 17-year-old was seen running down the stairs and leaving the building.
On Sunday, May 10, detectives spoke with someone connected to the teen, whom he had allegedly unexpectedly visited around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. She said that he “was acting off and seemed very different than his normal self.”
The McLean County State’s Attorney’s office said the 17-year-old was arrested on Friday, May 15. He was taken to the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center where he remains in custody.
