PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) – The person accused of killing a 13-year-old boy a decade ago will appear back in court later this summer.
That was the result of a very brief – it lasted about 30 seconds – hearing for Keith Brackett, who is charged in connection with the November 2016 death of Robert “Bonzai” Bee, whose body was found in a wooded area off Illinois Route 29 several months later.
Brackett, 48, clad in a black and white jumpsuit, appeared in court, shackled at the hands and the waist. She shuffled into the third-floor courtroom and then sat in the front row. Her team of three attorneys huddled around.
She didn’t go into the well of the courtroom. Rather, Presiding Judge Chris Doscotch announced the case, asked for a new court date – July 16 – and then moved on to the next hearing for Monday’s busy morning docket.
Brackett faces first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death for the boy’s death. The charges — murder and concealment of a homicidal death — allege that Brackett asphyxiated Bee and then hid his remains in a wooded area of property he was maintaining.
Brackett, who was recently paroled from the Illinois Department of Corrections for an unrelated conviction, was arrested on April 8.
