BLOOMINGTON – The former fire chief of Allin Township has pleaded guilty to theft charges following a plea agreement.
Joshua Deterding, 31, pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of felony theft, while five other counts including official misconduct and money laundering charges were dismissed in the agreement.
Deterding was removed as chief last year after an investigation in which McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage said Deterding had access to a petty cash fund which he used for personal use to the tune of $27,000 over a two-year period.
Sandage says Deterding withdrew the money from ATMs in bars and gas stations.
McLean County Judge Casey Costigan is scheduled to sentence Deterding on June 2.
