Richard Freed
Richard Allen Freed, 70, of Lexington passed away Friday, Jan. 02, 2015 at 12:25 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
A visitation will be held at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 07, 2015 with Pastor Jan Proeber officiating at the memorial home. Interment is in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, Prostate Cancer Foundation, and National Alliance on Mental Illness
Richard was born July 13, 1944 in Normal, a son to Roy E. “Pard” and Gwendolyn McHugh Freed. He married Alice Webb Feb. 14, 1965 in Lexington, IL. She passed away on Aug. 12, 2007.
He is survived by two daughters, Shannon (Brian) Anderson of Ellsworth; Shayne Bedeker of Duluth, Georgia; one son, Shad (Jerna) Freed of Lexington; son-in-law, Robert “Pink Bob” Harper; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Abhram, Jake, LeaLynn, Kolton; three great-granddaughters, Maria, Paizley, Naomi; two brothers, Doug (Barbie) Freed of Lexington; Hugh (Rosemary) Freed of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his four beloved dogs, Gerty, Blossom, Murphy, and Peanut.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kathryn and her husband Chuck Berry; one daughter, Shawn Louise Harper; and his sister Judy Freed.
Richard graduated from Lexington High School. He drove the school bus for the Lexington School District for 41 years and Mycogen Seeds in Pontiac for several years. He also served as a police officer with the Lexington Police Department. Richard owned and operated Freed’s Decorating. He was an avid supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Order of the Eastern Star, and lifelong devotee of the Lexington Minuteman. Richard enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Ozarks, listening to music, and watching both the Arizona Cardinals football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, especially his children and all his “kids.”

Allan H. Gawthorp, Jr., 48, of Normal, passed away at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church, Bloomington with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating. Visitation: 10 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday Jan. 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church. Interment: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Schroeder
Mary Jane Schroeder, 97, of Bloomington, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. Jeff Windy officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington. .
Mary Jane was born on May 29, 1917 in Milwaukee, WI, a daughter to Sigmund and Mary Ellen Sheehan Schoenbrun. She married Arthur Kenneth Schroeder on Feb. 8, 1967 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 2008.
Surviving are her three children, Arthur R. Schroeder of Campton Hills, Ill., Stephen E. (Paula) Schroeder of Fair Oaks, CA, Ellen J. (Bud) Schroeder-Concklin of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Sienna and Sonia Schroeder, both of California, Julie (Kevin) Bott of Prospect Heights, Jennifer Concklin of Bloomington, Jim (Wendy) Concklin of Prospect Heights; ten great grandchildren, Jeff, Jordan, Ryan, Hannah, Layla, Naomi, Grace, Charlie, Henry and Will; sister in-law, Ruth Pierce of Normal; nephews, Rodney and Ross who came to live with the family in 1972; nieces and nephews, Karen, Patty, Rebecca, Ann, Mary, Joe, John, Jane, Richard and Tari.
In addition to her husband, Arthur, Mary Jane is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Thomas; and brother, Robert Schoenbrun.
Mary Jane retired from the Federal Government as a supervisor at the Social Security Administration. Prior to her marriage, she lived and worked in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, DC as well as other mid-western cities. After her Social Security retirement, she worked for the McLean County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Mary Jane was Valedictorian and newspaper editor of her NCHS class of 1935.
Mary Jane went back to ISU after retirement, completing two years of college credits.
Mary Jane volunteered at the St. Vincent dePaul food pantry, St. Joseph’s Auxillary and BroMenn Hospital. She was a member of the Elks Emblem Club and a former member of Lakeside County Club and enjoyed her monthly outings with the “Lunch Bunch” and the retired Social Security group.
Well into her 80s, Mary Jane supported Four Seasons Club and swam at least a mile a day.
Mary Jane exercised her right to vote and was proud of her Democratic affiliation.
Mary Jane survived the Depression and the Recession, lived through 17 Presidents, watched the moon landing, learned to navigate the Internet, use a cell phone and had her own Facebook account.
