NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Normal Fire Station 2 will be reborn, albeit in a different part of town.
The Normal Fire Department is making progress on its $8 million Fire Station Two, located at the intersection of Shephard and Hershey roads, which will be a more modern version of the old College Avenue location.
Mick Humer, the chief of the Normal Fire Department, shares how the new fire station will assist the community.
“It will increase the response times in that particular response area, but it will be within Normal limits. Our response times are four and a half minutes to six minutes, 90% of the time,” Humer said.
The chief said the next step of the process is to finish building Station Two, then they can set their sights on other projects.
Even though this process might take a while, Humer, and his team, are excited to see everything come to fruition.
He said they expect the new station to be finished sometime in October.
