BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A Normal man, already facing charges in Southern Illinois, is now facing possible counts in McLean County after being arrested for possessing child porn.
Collin Maguire, 21, was arrested Monday after an investigation by the Bloomington Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit. He was taken to the McLean County Jail on nearly two dozen child pornography related charges, said Bryce Janssen, a police spokesman.
The charges will add to counts in Franklin County in Southern Illinois where he’s been charged with traveling to visit a minor, grooming and indecent solicitation of a minor. Those charges could send him to prison for up to five years.
The Bloomington case began after a technology company made a report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, regarding the alleged uploading and sharing of videos believed to be child sex abuse material, Janssen said.
Detectives executed several search warrants. Evidence of child sex abuse material and computer-generated child pornography was located, he said.
Given what they found, officers were able to get a warrant from a judge but had to go to Franklin County as Maguire was in custody there.
“It is very unfortunate society has to experience alleged offenders who prey on the most vulnerable, our youthful population. The BPD detectives work diligently with our law enforcement partners to hold these offenders accountable for their illegal conduct. We will continue these efforts and vow to work hard to protect our children from alleged predators,” Chief Jamal Simington said.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Detective Tyrel Klein at 309-434-2366 or Tklein@cityblm.org.
