BLOOMINGTON – District 87 School Board member Fitzgerald Samedy, sentenced Tuesday for a repeat drunken driving conviction, plans to resign his elected post, the board’s president tells 25 News.
Samedy stated his intentions last weekend to Board President Mark Wylie said Superintendent David Mouser.
Samedy pleaded guilty in December to aggravated DUI and driving with a revoked license, but he can avoid jail by successfully meeting conditions of his probation through McLean County’s Veterans Treatment Court.
Wylie said Samedy has yet to hand-in his official letter of resignation. Once the resignation takes effect, the school board has 60 days to appoint Samedy’s replacement, who would serve until 2025.
Samedy was elected to the board in 2021.
“I wish him well,” said Wylie.
“I hope things work out for him.”
