BLOOMINGTON – Last week, a family-owned Illinois Dairy company, Oberweis Dairy, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Oberweis Dairy, based out of Aurora, notified the state of plans to lay off over one hundred employees in the wake of filing for bankruptcy.

Oberweis Dairy owns and operates an Ice Cream and Dairy store on Veterans Parkway in Bloomington. With the bankruptcy filing, the future of the store is unknown.

In a filing to the court, Oberwise representatives said the company has more than 1,100 employees, mostly part-time workers.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Oberweise has been losing money over the past several years and owes more than $14 million dollars to banks.

Oberwise has over 40 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri.

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
