SPRINGFIELD – While public education’s recovery from the pandemic is not over, Gov. JB Pritzker said Thursday there are victories to celebrate.
Discussing the Illinois Report Card at a suburban Chicago high school, Pritzker says things are trending up. “Nobody is suggesting that the report card is somehow perfect,” he said. “It is not. But it is an indicator of, directionally, (how) things are getting better and accelerating in a way that I think is unexpected, as compared to other states.”
The high school graduation rate is up to 87 percent, but the level of chronic absenteeism – missing ten percent or more of school days – is also up, to thirty percent.
