NORMAL – If you’re looking for a COVID-19 test a local college is offering the service for free.

Heartland Community College is using the SHIELD Illinois saliva-based COVID-19 test. The test, which was developed by the University of Illinois, is in use throughout colleges and universities in Illinois.

Heartland Public Information Director Steve Fast spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“This is available for our students and employees, and we’ve opened it up to the public. Since it has been open, about 50% of the people who use it are just from the general public,” said Fast.

An appointment is required. More information is available here.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
