BLOOMINGTON – To streamline the process of registering for a COVID-19 vaccine clinic, the McLean County Health Department is launching a new vaccine scheduler.

According to McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight, the new vaccine scheduler on MCHD’s website would provide email confirmation for vaccine appointments.

“We are using the Illinois Department of Public Health EMTrack system for scheduling, and we have added on our website now on the page where vaccinations are posted. So health.mcleancountyil.gov, our website a tutorial, a step-by-step process so individuals will be able to use the system and know they are registered.”

Once a resident enters their name, address, phone number, date of birth, and email address, they will receive an email confirmation of their vaccination appointment.

This past week, the health department vaccinated around 600 residents; however, some residents showed up for vaccinations believing they had an appointment when they did not.

“Our hope is that the more communication we can do and help people be more comfortable with the process of scheduling that we can just alleviate any of that stress or anxiety of not knowing for sure. So people know for sure that they have that appointment. And again, we’re going to be in this for the long-haul. We’re going to have weekly appointments and schedules posted, so the more familiarity people have with the program and the more communication that we’re able to provide, the more comfortable the public can get.”

While COVID-19 vaccines remain limited, McKnight added that booking appointments are necessary to register for a COVID-19 vaccination.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
