WOODFORD COUNTY – A Peoria man remains behind bars after a high-speed chase that ended with the man’s car in the Illinois River.

Police say officers went to pull over Anthony Huynh, 23, on State Route 26 for a traffic violation. Once officers approached the vehicle, Huynh fled at high speeds.

During the chase, deputies say Huyhn drove his care into the Illinois River and swam away from the car. Police then went into the river but failed to apprehend the suspect.

Officers then followed a wet set of footprints and found Huynh hiding under a parked truck.

Huynh is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing from police alongside possession of cannabis.

Bond has been set at $25,000.
