NORMAL – A Normal Fire Department truck that had just been repaired caught fire Wednesday and is apparently a total loss.

Engine 15 was heading back to town on I-74, near Knoxville, west of Peoria, when a mechanical failure in rear of the truck ignited the flames.

On its Facebook page, the department said the fire does not appear to be related to the repair work.

The department said no firefighting equipment was on board, so damage is limited to the rig.

No one was injured, and the cause is under investigation.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
